Some people can be so busy criticizing others over what they think those others should have done or should not have done, but never stop to look at themselves the same way. It's so easy to point out somebody else’s flaws when all we can see is what is on the outside, but God’s Word calls us to look inward.
Before being so quick to speak on somebody else, we need to be willing to let the Lord deal with us. That kind of self-examination takes humility. It takes honesty. And it takes a real willingness to see ourselves for who we are, not just who we think we are.
David showed us that kind of heart in Psalm 139. He did'nt ask God to search somebody else. He asked God to search him:
When we really allow God to show us ourselves, it should change how we deal with other people. We become less harsh, less self-righteous, and more understanding. Not because wrong is no longer wrong, but because we realize we need God’s mercy too.
It's one thing to see fault in others, however, it's another thing to see the areas in our own hearts that still need God’s work.
Before speaking so strongly about others, we should first be asking the Lord to search us.
