Selah: Pause and Consider | What Feels Natural Is Not Always Holy©

Being born with an inclination does not make that inclination righteous. What is natural to fallen humanity is not automatically approved by God. In Psalm 51:5, David speaks after being confronted over his adultery with Bathsheba and his role in the murder of  her husband, Uriah. He is not excusing himself or claiming he was born committing those specific acts. He is acknowledging something deeper: sin marked the human condition from the very beginning of his life. We enter the world fallen, and that fallen nature expresses itself in different ways in different people. The gospel does not say, “Celebrate every inclination.” It says, “Repent, believe, and be transformed.”
