CAUGHT UNARMORED - January 8, 2026 This week our Thursday Night Bible Study returned to its study on spiritual warfare by examining the life of Abraham’s nephew, Lot . We traced Lot’s physical movement through Scripture: Genesis 13:10–11 — choosing land near Sodom Genesis 13:12 — moving close enough to Sodom to be affected by the consequences of proximity Genesis 14:12; 19:1 — dwelling within the city of Sodom Lot didn't wake up one day surrounded by wickedness. His journey toward Sodom was incremental. And though he resided in Sodom, he was righteous, and his soul was tormented by what surrounded him (2 Peter 2:7-8). Lot’s journey mirrors how a believer can slowly drift away from God - not through outright rebellion - but through proximity and prolonged exposure to environments God clearly defines as sinful. Deborah the Obedient & Faithful Judge (Part I) Scripture References: Judges Chapters 1 - 4 A CONTINUED STUDY ON FAITH, RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND SPIRITUAL WARFARE At the heart of last night’s Bible Study on Deborah was obedience and faith . Deborah was raised up by God as a judge during a time of war. She led under threat, not comfort and not peace, and she honored God when obedience was costly. God honored her faith, she completed her assignment, and the land had rest. At the onset of our study, we saw that the tribes of Israel did not complete what God had assigned them to do after crossing the Jordan River to go into Canaan. They experienced some victories, but they did not finish what God instructed them to do— drive out the Canaanites . Scripture repeatedly lets us know in Chapter 1 that they “did not completely drive them out.” Israel’s obedience was partial. Yet in our continued study on faith, righteousness, and spiritual warfare, last night’s Bible Study made something very clear: FOLLOWING CHRIST REQUIRES STRENGTH & OUR GOD IS SOVEREIGN It takes strength to pick up your cross and follow Jesus.
