For example, homosexuality. I no longer struggle with that issue and believe God loves homosexuals in the same way He loves heterosexuals, hands down. I do draw some distinctions about how I believe God views sex and marriage for the homosexual and heterosexual. However, this blog is not about those distinctions, and I thank God that He did not charge me with such a writing task at this time since those issues require a delicate and in-depth textual approach. It would have been exhausting committing my understanding of this matter to paper. Thank You, Jesus, I did not have to do it at this time! Whew!
And abortion. Yes. That is one of those issues that I still struggle with. It is not as simple as the world and some Christians present it to be and does not always fit snugly into political boxes. One can be “pro-choice” and still be against abortion in certain instances. And, on the other hand, one can be “pro-life” and still be sadly amenable to abortion given certain circumstances. But, again, and with a sigh of relief given the arguments on when life begins after conception, God did not charge me with exposing my take on this subject at this time, and as previously expressed, I thank the good Lord He did not since this topic also requires sensitivity and an exhaustive and balanced documented approach grounded in scripture.
I could go on and on naming many things Christians struggle with, i.e., should women preach, or should they not? Is drinking alcohol an acceptable thing for Christians to do or is it not? And on and on and on in the life of the beautiful universal church. But in both examples shown above, and regarding all the other issues we may differ on, I would like to think that mature Christians have concluded that God is the final judge and that God – alone - has the final say in whatever conflicting matter is at hand.
All we are charged with in the decision-making process as disciples of Christ, is to love our neighbor in the same way Jesus loves us. We are not called to bomb buildings or shoot bullets at assemblies of people, and nor are we called to bully and badger folks who are different. We are called to love all; having faith in God and believing He is able to move any mountain of undesirable circumstances. By doing so, we separate ourselves from those who have no Christian values whatsoever and whose motives are rooted in an unbalanced ego and an extreme hatred for others. We get out of the spotlight shined on those who are really standing in the need of redemptive prayer. The vile one who is full of hatred and who does not give a farmer's fart about Jesus Christ and His teachings.
Christians are called to build up and are not called to tear down. We are called to have faith in God believing He – alone – will do that which is needed to be done. My prayer for 2018 is that all of us around the world who call ourselves Christians humble ourselves and pray so that God can heal the land of all those things that are not like Him. In Jesus Christ name. Amen.
