SHOUT OUT TO THE SAVED, SET APART, AND SINGLE - of all ages - who are doing their best to glorify God in every area of their lives! To some's surprise, all Christian single folks are not desiring to be married; and if that's you, OWN IT! (as my millennial niece would say). It's okay! It's not a declaration that suggests you oppose marriage or children and more so an affirmation that you are content at being single for Jesus .
The Bible reveals several unmarried people who were used by God and the Lord can use you too if you let Him. The first person Jesus chose to reveal Himself to after He raised Himself from the dead was Mary Magdalene, a controversial figure, and He trusted her to deliver the good news of His resurrection to His disciples (Mark 16:9; John 20:11-18). God used Matthew Philips' unmarried virgin daughters to prophesy (Acts 21:8-9), and Saint Matthew - former publican and tax collector - who became one of Jesus Christ''s 12 Disciples, was used to evangelize and write the longest account of the Good News as a synoptic Gospel! It's okay to be unmarried. It's okay to not have children. But it is not okay to consume yourself with yourself since God expects all of His children to do something for the Kingdom of God! To "give" to the Church; to give to others, to "help" the Church, to help others, to make "sacrificial offerings" (money, time, talent, and skills) for the church and to sacrifice for others, and to "witness" to unbelievers every opportunity we are given!
The Apostle Paul - who also was unmarried - encouraged single Christians to remain single if they could. In his letter to the Corinthians he wrote: "But I say to the unmarried and to the widows, [that as a practical matter] it is good if they remain [single and entirely devoted to the Lord as I am. But if they do not have [sufficient] self-control, they should marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion..” (1 Cor 7:8-10). And as the well known Presbyterian Minister - Matthew Henry - so clearly put it: "Marriage is honourable in all; but it is a duty in those who cannot contain nor conquer those inclinations."
God does not care whether or not we are single or married; with child or without and is more so concerned with how we conduct ourselves in whatever state we are in. "But anyone united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Shun fornication! Every sin that a person commits is outside the body; but the fornicator sins against the body itself. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body." (1 Cor 6:17-19).
There is nothing wrong with having a desire to get married and have children; but while one is waiting for it to happen, he or she can still put his or her hands to the plow and do something for God that is approved by God. Even though one may not be called to fulfill a task like the Prophet Jeremiah - who was forbidden by God to marry or have children for a season (Jeremiah 16:1) - all Christians are expected to spread the Good News in some way or another. Single Christians can be "fruitful and multiply" by winning souls for Christ! This is how they can participate in the multiplying agenda of God as revealed in Genesis 1:22, and if they do this - alone - that's okay too!
"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matthew 28:18-20)
