WHAT'S IN YOUR SPIRIT? ©

On the Sunday before the November 8, 2016 presidential election, the pastor reminded all of the attending parishioners about the importance of voting and our civic responsibility to do so in the upcoming election. It was the first time I heard the term “provisional ballot” used and our spiritual leader explained that if we – as registered voters - arrive at the polls and the pollsters can’t find our name on the roll, then we can ask for a provisional ballot so that we can still cast our vote. The provisional ballot allows a person to vote even though his or her name is not listed on the electoral roll. If the voter casting the provisional ballot is verified by the state's board of elections, then his or her vote will count. And, of course, if he or she is not, then the vote will not be counted.

Well, the information came in handy sooner than I expected. There was a woman at the table next to the district table I was at, and she was not listed. I attempted to tell the woman about what had just been explained to me two days ago but she opted to consult someone on the other end of her cellphone. I'm not sure if she ever got a chance to vote since I was being directed to the booth to cast my ballot. After I voted and as I started up my car to leave, I thought about that woman, provisional ballots, who was going to be the next president of the United States of America, and as odd as it may seem I also thought about Heaven.

I wondered what it would be like to have provisional entrance into Heaven. Will there be “districts” set up? “All who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior” lined up at one table? “All who have not” at another? Will there be “subdivisions” established based on how a Christian lived his or her life after accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior? “All who have endured temptation” line up here for your crown and “all who have not” there? I don’t know... But what I do know - what I do believe - is that all that I need to know is in God’s Word and all answers will be revealed to me at the appointed time. It’s all in the “book.” The Holy Book. The Bible. Hey... What's in your spirit?

HEBREWS 10:26 15
For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins. (KJV)

JAMES 1:12
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. (KJV)

REVELATION 20:12-15
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (KJV)
